Our dedicated volunteers increase our capacity to serve the community 10 times over and come from all walks of life.
Volunteers at APLA Health range in age from 12 to 86 and come from all walks of life!

Our dedicated volunteers increase our capacity to serve the community 10 times over. People of many skills and backgrounds come through our doors every year, as teams or as individuals, for assignments from phone banking to bagging groceries to helping with one of our fund raisers. Each year, we benefit from the work of more than 1,500 volunteers who contribute more than 65,000 hours of service at a value of $1.1 million per year.

We are now accepting applications for the following volunteer opportunities:

Volunteer Opportunities

Food Pantry Volunteer

Division:

HIV Access, Client Services

Program Description:

The Vance North Necessities of Life Program (NOLP) provides groceries to over 1,700 clients who live on a limited income. Clients are able to access the food bank weekly and take home five bags of groceries per visit. They receive a wide variety of predetermined items that include fresh dairy, frozen meats, fresh produce, and an assortment of canned and dry goods that cover 100% of weekly meals as well as hygiene items and cleaning supplies.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

We have a number of opportunities for volunteers, such as distributing groceries to clients, pre-bagging groceries, filing, and stocking shelves.

Schedule:

Food pantry volunteers are needed at:

CDU/MLK Medical Campus
1679 E. 120th St., Los Angeles, CA 90059
Thursday: shifts from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. and 12:30–3:30 p.m.

David Geffen Center
611 S. Kingsley Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90005
Wednesday / Friday*: shifts from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. and 12–3 p.m.
*Site closes early on the first Friday of the month.

NOLP San Fernando

Tuesday-Friday: shifts from 9 a.m.–12 p.m., 1–4 p.m., and 4–7 p.m.

NOLP at Project Angel Food

Saturday: shift from 12–3 p.m.

Requirements:
The desire to help improve the quality of life of low-income people with HIV
Enjoy working in a warehouse environment
Under 16 must volunteer with an adult
Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism
Outgoing personality, excellent communication skills
Proof of COVID full vaccination. A person is fully vaccinated when they have received their booster dose or they received their initial vaccine series but are not yet eligible for their booster.

Nutrition/Administrative Volunteer

Program Description:

Volunteer will interface with the dietician and site coordinators in order to successfully offer nutrition support to clients, volunteers, and staff.

Requirements:
Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, filing, data entry, phone skills
Strong PC, MS Office, and online resources skills
Strong nutrition and administrative skills needed

Special Events Volunteer

Division:

Advancement

Volunteer Responsibilities:

Assist with set-up, breakdown, directions, ticket sales, and other duties related to our special events. We accept both individual and group volunteers. Groups are encouraged to volunteer together.

Requirements:
Should be flexible and willing to perform a variety of duties
Excellent people skills are required
A variety of shifts is available
We need both daytime and nighttime volunteers for most events
