Shared Action
Acción Mutua/Shared Action is a program funded by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) to implement capacity
building assistance services for other AIDS organizations in
the western region of the U.S.
The grant designates APLA as the provider of these services to
organizations that are funded by the CDC to deliver HIV prevention
services to Latinos in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho,
Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Guam and the Pacific Basin.
The goal of this program is to improve
the capacity of community based organizations and health departments
to implement, improve and
evaluate HIV prevention interventions for Latinos/as of unknown
serostatus, including pregnant women, and people living with HIV/AIDS
and their partners.

Staff
Miguel
A. Chion, M.D., M.P.H. is the Program Manager of the Acción
Mutua/Shared Action Program . He
earned his M.D. in Peru and his M.P.H. at the University of California
Los Angeles. His primary interests include Latinos and HIV,
gender, evaluation techniques and evaluation capacity building. He
has more than nine years of experience working in the HIV/AIDS/STD
field and four years as an evaluator at APLA. He is currently
an evaluator of eight HIV programs, a Community Advisory Board
member for APLA treatment and education, and a member of the American
Public Health Association and American Evaluation Association.
